The Last Unicorn is a novel of complete and utter exhlirating magic. When I was younger my mother borrowed the movie and let me watch it. Ever since then, Unicorns have been my favorite animals. I fell in love instantly. There's just something about the entire outlook of the plot that got me hooked. I never knew that it was a book until later. I finally got the book this past Christmas and read it as soon as the pages touched my hands. There was magic in every single letter and in every word. Every sentence could be quoted. The Style of Peter S. Beagle is unique, his work is written like flowing poetry, imagery that appeals to all senses. His words are so easy to listen to. It's the closest to magic, I've ever been...and ever will get to.

Quotes
" But the true secret of being a hero lies in knowing the order of things. The swineherd cannot already be wed to the princess when he embarks on his adventures, nor can the boy knock at the witch's door when she is away on vacation. The wicked uncle cannot be found out and foiled before he does something wicked. Things must happen when it is time for them to happen. Quests may not simple be abandoned; prophecies may not be left to rot like unpicked fruit....The Happy ending cannot come in the middle of the story."
~Prince Lir

"Everything dies...it is good that everything dies. I want to die when you die. Do not let him enchant me, do not let him make me immortal. I am no unicorn, no magical creature. I am human, and I love you."
~The Lady Amalthea

"I wish I could see her once more, to tell her all my heart. She will never know what I really meant to say..." ~King Lir
"As for you and your heart and the things you didn't say, she will remember them all when men are fairy tales in books written by rabbits. Think of that and be still." ~ Schmendrick

"....For all that her quest had ended joyously, there was a weariness in the way she held herself, and a sadness in her beauty that Molly never seen. It suddenly seemed to her that the unicorn's sorrow was nor for Lir but for the lost girl who could not be brought back; for the Lady Almalthea, who might have lived happily ever after with the prince. The unicorn bowed her head, and her horn glanced across Lir's chin as clumsily as a first kiss."
